Product details

Background & context

The Alpini have been the Italian army's mountain troops since 1872. In high mountains, entrenched enemies could often be reached only by plunging fire from mortars and howitzers whose shells dropped behind ridges and rocks. That required observers with a clear line of sight to correct each fall of shot. Since the best vantage points were often on ridges and peaks, these men had to be climbers as well as soldiers.

On the tabletop

As an observer team this unit calls in artillery fire in Bolt Action. Indirect fire hits enemies even in cover, which makes it the answer to dug-in infantry. Place the three Alpini on high ground with a clear view of the target area but shielded from direct fire, because your opponent will try to remove them early. They do their job best alongside the howitzers and mortars of your Italian army.
