    Background & context

    Japan führte die Typ 97 im Jahr 1937 ein, als 20 Millimeter gegen die Panzer der Zeit noch genügten. Das Gerät war schwer, brauchte mehrere Träger und verriet seine Stellung beim ersten Schuss. Gegen chinesische und sowjetische Leichtpanzer funktionierte es; als ab 1943 amerikanische Sherman durch den Dschungel brachen, war die Büchse überholt und die Infanterie wich auf Haftladungen und Nahangriffe aus.

    On the tabletop

    The Type 97 entered Japanese service in 1937: a semi-automatic 20 mm anti-tank rifle with a high rate of fire that could penetrate up to 30 mm of armour. That made it a threat to most lightly armoured vehicles and light tanks. In Bolt Action you place the two-man team with its plastic bases in thick cover beside a track that such vehicles have to use. Against the Sherman, which appeared from 1943, the weapon was outdated, so you need other means for that.
