Product details

Background & context

The US Army wanted a tank destroyer that does not wait but drives: tank destroyer doctrine called for sealing off enemy breakthroughs with fast units. For that the M18 was given a radial engine, torque converter and torsion bar suspension and ran at over 80 km/h, more than any other tracked tank of the war. The price was thin plate and an open turret. At Arracourt in September 1944, Hellcats coming out of the fog caught considerably heavier Panthers, exactly the kind of ambush they were designed for.

On the tabletop

Three M18 Hellcats make an American armoured platoon for Bolt Action. The game rates the Hellcat as an armoured car armed with a heavy anti-tank gun, so the platoon relies on speed, not armour. Use cover, get round heavily armoured German tanks and hit them in the flank, as at Arracourt in September 1944. They suit games in Italy, North West Europe and the Ardennes, and in Chinese lists also the Pacific as fire support. Six crew figures, decals and damage markers come in the box, and there are Achtung Panzer! rules for it too.
