Product details

Background & context

In the German battalion the heavy weapons did not sit with the rifle platoons but in a company of their own, from which the battalion commander allotted them as needed. A platoon typically consisted of several tripod-mounted MG squads and a mortar squad, led by an officer of its own. By 1943 the surviving crews had so much combat experience that they found fields of fire and registration points almost without orders. That is exactly the body of men this set depicts.

On the tabletop

The complete heavy weapons platoon for your German Bolt Action force is in this box, with crews matching the plastic German Veteran Infantry platoon. The two tripod-mounted MG 34s, each with three crew, sweep open ground with sustained fire. The 8 cm Granatwerfer 34 fires in an arc at enemies behind cover. The platoon commander, whom the platoon also needs in the army list, comes in the box, together with four order dice.
