Hintergrund & Einordnung

Veteran Wehrmacht troops were reinforced on all fronts by concentrated heavy weapon groups - experienced crews who exploited the full potential of the MG 34 and 8cm Granatwerfer 34. The tripod-mounted MG 34 is considered particularly effective in Bolt Action (extra shot bonus for German MGs), while the 81mm mortar, with a range of 2,400 meters and 15-20 rounds per minute, serves as indispensable indirect fire support. The Platoon Commander ensures that this firepower is coordinated and used precisely. Such heavy weapon platoons formed the backbone of many German defensive positions and supported attacks by maintaining fire on key enemy positions - particularly evident in the trench warfare on the Eastern Front and in Stalingrad.

The Heavy Weapons Platoon provides reliable fire support from the second line for a German Bolt Action army. The two MG 34 teams are ideal for suppression and pinning down enemy infantry over large areas, while the mortar threatens entrenched units behind cover.
