Product details

Background & context

The platoon was the smallest unit that could fight independently: three squads built around their machine guns, plus command, runners and medics. From 1944 such a platoon looked more varied than it had in 1941, with Zeltbahns and camouflage smocks in splinter, pea-dot and marsh patterns, and among them steel helmets with and without covers. The weaponry was modern, the StG 44 assault rifle was in series production, but supplies and replacements could hardly keep up any more.

On the tabletop

The 44 figures let you field a complete German infantry platoon of the last war years: 30 riflemen plus 14 men for support and heavy weapons. A tripod-mounted MG 42 and an 81 mm mortar pin the enemy down, while Panzerschreck and Panzerfaust deal with vehicles. Officers, radio operators, medics, ammunition carriers and snipers round out the command. Plenty of arms with MG 42s, submachine guns, StG 44s and stick grenades let you arm every figure differently.
