Product details

Background & context

The infantry of the Afrika Korps was never numerous. Rommel seldom had more than a few rifle regiments to hand, and the rest of the front was held by Italian divisions. These few battalions bore the brunt of the positional fighting before Tobruk in 1941, held the Halfaya Pass and at Gazala cleared the lanes through the minefields along which the tanks followed. They were armed as in Europe, with Karabiner 98k, MP40 and stick grenades; only the clothing was different: tropical shirt, shorts or long trousers and canvas lace-up boots instead of marching boots.

On the tabletop

These five Afrika Korps infantrymen are sculpted on the attack: two draw back to throw stick grenades, three advance with rifles levelled or at the run. They show a squad assaulting a position, for example at Tobruk, at the Halfaya Pass or in the minefield gaps at Gazala. Placed next to Set 1, no pose is repeated and your desert squad looks on the move. Steel helmets, field caps and dust goggles set the men apart when you paint them.
