Background & context

Winter equipment came late to the Wehrmacht. Only after the catastrophic first winter before Moscow were padded reversible suits, felt boots and white oversuits issued in quantity, in time for the fighting in which exactly these three weapons counted. The Panzerschreck stopped tanks at short range when the anti-tank guns were stuck fast in the snow. Sniper and flamethrower decided the house-to-house fighting in burnt-out villages, where visibility and cover decided who lived.

On the tabletop

Panzerschreck, sniper rifle and flamethrower, carried by six men in winter gear: these three teams give a German winter force in Bolt Action its specialists. The Panzerschreck team waits in cover for vehicles that come within short range. The sniper with his telescopic sight picks out enemy leaders. With the flamethrower you attack buildings and fortified positions, for example in snow-covered villages.
