From 1942 the PaK 40 was the backbone of German anti-tank defence and at combat ranges could penetrate practically any Allied hull. Warlord supplies it in metal, with a four-man crew and a matching MDF base.

Background & context

The PaK 40 was already in development before the T-34 shock, but was given top priority afterwards. At heart it is an enlarged PaK 38: the same design, 7.5 centimetre calibre, a good 1.4 tonnes in weight. That was precisely its problem, because without a towing vehicle a crew could barely shift it in mud, which is why many guns were simply left behind in retreats. More than 20,000 were built by the end of the war, and the same gun was also fitted to numerous vehicles.

On the tabletop

From 1942 the PaK 40 was Germany's most important anti-tank gun, and in Bolt Action it takes on exactly this job against Allied tanks. At normal combat ranges it penetrates almost any armour, so dig it in with a clear field of fire covering an approach. Without a towing vehicle the heavy gun is hard to move, so choose its position carefully. Four Heer figures from the middle to late war years and an oval MDF base are included.
