Background & context

The winter of 1941/42 cost the Wehrmacht more men through frostbite than through enemy action, because winter clothing had simply not been planned for. What followed was a mixture of everything: collections from home, requisitioned furs, blankets, headscarves under the helmet. Only from 1942/43 did reversible winter clothing with a white side reach the front in larger numbers. A squad therefore never looked uniform, neither before Moscow nor in the Ardennes.

On the tabletop

Ten metal figures in improvised winter clothing make a ready-made grenadier squad for winter games of Bolt Action, from the Soviet Union to the Ardennes. The MG42 team forms the base of fire and the NCO with his submachine gun leads. Two men carry assault rifles for close range, and no fewer than four Panzerfausts give the squad an answer to vehicles that come too close. You can field the figures as Heer or Waffen-SS.
