Hintergrund & Einordnung

The German army was designed for a short campaign from the outset - the long winters on the Eastern Front and in the Ardennes initially caught many units unprepared. From 1941/42, winter uniforms and equipment were systematically introduced to maintain combat effectiveness in extreme cold - typical items included the reversible winter camouflage suit (winter camouflage on the outside, white on the inside), lined winter coats, felt boots, and fur caps. Support units such as officers, observers, medics, and heavy weapon teams formed the backbone of every platoon and were essential for coordination and firepower. This set shows precisely these key figures in typical winter equipment, as they were used on the Eastern and Western Fronts - perfect for supplementing the winter infantry box.

Einsatz im Spiel

The officer increases the reliability of adjacent units and can be deployed as a platoon or company commander. Forward Observers and Medics complement every infantry platoon and open up tactical options beyond mere firepower. The MMG team delivers sustained suppressive fire at medium range, while the Mortar team flushes entrenched enemies out of cover. Together, the set covers all the important roles of a German support platoon and fits into any winter Eastern or Western Front army list.
