    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The German mountain troops (Gebirgsjäger) emerged as the elite of the Wehrmacht infantry from the Alpenkorps of World War I. Their symbol, the edelweiss, was introduced in 1907 and remains the universal emblem of all mountain troops to this day. Specially trained for operations in mountains, high mountains, and extreme climatic zones, Gebirgsjäger divisions fought in almost all theaters of war: in Poland, Norway (Narvik), North Africa, Crete, the Balkans, the Caucasus, and on the Soviet front. In the last months of the war, they were often deployed to defend strategically important areas where the quality of regular infantry had deteriorated.

    Einsatz im Spiel

    The Gebirgsjäger are an elite unit for Bolt Action and Chain of Command, ideal for terrain and mountain scenarios as well as alpine, polar, or forested battlefields. With their "Skier" special rule in Bolt Action, they can traverse difficult terrain more effectively than regular infantry. In-game, they hold key positions in hard-to-reach terrain, are suitable for flanking maneuvers, and fit perfectly into lists for the Eastern Front, Finland, the Balkans, or the late Italian campaign.
