Product details

Background & context

Between Tilsit and Moscow Napoleon's army stood at its peak, and it was carried not by the Guard but by the line regiments. They marched to Spain, to the Danube and in 1812 across the Niemen, by now in shakos instead of bicornes, because the new headdress had been taking over since 1806. These battalions supplied the mass that Napoleon used up and raised afresh again and again.

On the tabletop

For Black Powder, the 60 figures make two French line battalions of 30 men each, or one large battalion, for the years 1807 to 1812. The shako heads represent the fusiliers, the grenadier caps the elite company, and the porte-fanion arms the colour party. In line the battalions hold positions and fire, in column they advance faster and attack. Together with artillery and cavalry of the same period they form a brigade for Spain, the Danube or Russia.
