Background & context

Between 1805 and 1807 the Grande Armée marched from Boulogne to Ulm, Austerlitz, Jena and Friedland and beat three great powers in a little over two years. At that time the regiments still consisted largely of long-serving professional soldiers, not the hastily levied conscripts of the later period. The image of these troops is defined by the bicorne: the shako was introduced in 1806, but it took years before every regiment was really wearing it.

On the tabletop

The 60 line infantrymen in bicornes let you field the French infantry of the campaigns of Ulm, Austerlitz, Jena and Friedland. The grenadier heads mark out a battalion's elite company, and the porte-fanion arms give one man the small marker flag on which the line dresses. On the table the battalion approaches in column and deploys into line once it meets the enemy.
