    Product details

    Background & context

In 1807 Napoleon raised a cavalry regiment of the Guard from Polish volunteers, which was given lances shortly afterwards; in 1810 a second followed, formed from Dutch horsemen. The Poles wore blue, the Dutch red, and both earned their reputation in Spain and Russia. At Waterloo they rode under Ney against the British squares. The lance was no ornament here: against infantry lying down or running away it reached where a sabre could no longer do anything.

    On the tabletop

From the twelve lancers of the Imperial Guard you build the Polish regiment in blue or the Dutch one in red. The lance lets them reach fleeing or prone infantry that a sabre cannot touch, so you send them against broken units. They made their name in Spain and Russia, and at Waterloo they rode under Ney against the British squares. With some conversion work they become Prussian, Russian or Berg lancers.
