Background & context

Nach dem Untergang der Grande Armée in Russland musste Frankreich seine Artillerie 1813 fast von Grund auf neu aufstellen. Pferde und erfahrene Kanoniere fehlten, also rückten leichtere Rohre nach vorn, die sich mit weniger Bespannung bewegen ließen. In Sachsen, im Frankreichfeldzug und schließlich bei Waterloo blieb die Artillerie trotzdem die Waffengattung, auf die Napoleon sich am ehesten verlassen konnte.

On the tabletop

For Napoleon's last campaigns between 1812 and 1815 the box holds a complete French battery of three guns. Each barrel can be built as a 6-pounder or a howitzer, so you can mix direct and high-angle fire in one position. Among the 15 gunners, the master gunners stand out by their fringed epaulettes, while the others wear shoulder straps and shakos. The battery fits games set in Saxony in 1813, in the campaign in France or at Waterloo.
