    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The Compagnies de la Marine were not regular line infantry but were directly subordinate to the French Ministry of Marine and specially trained for colonial service in North America. For generations, they shaped French warfare in the hinterland - from bush warfare to cooperation with Indigenous allies. In the French and Indian War (1754-1763), they formed the military backbone of New France against the expanding British colonial power. Their experience in irregular warfare and their adaptability made them one of the most effective troop types on the North American theater of war.

    Einsatz im Spiel

    French Compagnie de la Marine functions as mobile infantry for skirmish lines, outpost engagements, and flank security in Black Powder and Sharp Practice. Light infantry can pressure the enemy and disrupt enemy movements ahead of the main line. The focus is on the French and Indian War. The "French" national affiliation helps in building suitable forces and scenarios.
