Product details

Background & context

The Chasseurs à Cheval were numerically the strongest mounted arm in France and at the same time the least conspicuous: green coats, small tough horses, no armour. Their work consisted of patrols, outpost duty and intercepting enemy dispatch riders, in other words tasks that win no battle but without which a corps marches blind. Napoleon himself wore the uniform of the Chasseurs à Cheval of the Guard, which gave the arm a status that its sober role alone would never have earned it. At the height of the Empire 31 regiments were in the field.

On the tabletop

The Chasseurs à Cheval were Napoleon's green-clad light horsemen, responsible for patrols, raids and scouting enemy movements. From twelve plastic riders and the metal officer you build a unit for Black Powder, and the metal parts for a trumpeter and eagle bearer give it a command group. The colpack goes to the elite company, the shako or covered shako to the other riders. For campaigns after 1808 you can simply cut off the sabretache.
