Hintergrund & Einordnung

The Chasseurs à Cheval were among the most versatile cavalry units of the Napoleonic era. As light cavalry, they undertook reconnaissance missions, secured marching routes, and pressured enemy flanks. Their green uniform and agile horses made them the preferred instrument for rapid advances and covering tasks. Elite companies of this unit wore the characteristic bearskin colpack, which visually distinguished them from the line troops. At the height of the Grande Armée, France fielded 31 regiments of Chasseurs à Cheval - for the Hundred Days' Campaign and Waterloo, 15 regiments were still available.

French Chasseurs à Cheval function in Black Powder, Sharp Practice, and Sharpe's Rifles as a cavalry unit for reconnaissance, flank attacks, and pursuing defeated enemies. Cavalry is particularly effective when exploiting open flanks or threatening disordered formations. The focus is on general Napoleonic engagements and the Waterloo Campaign. The French nation assignment aids in building suitable forces and scenarios.
