Background & context

From summer 1944 the Red Army pushed west in a series of huge offensives, from Belorussia through Poland to the Oder. The T-34 with its 85mm gun and the heavy IS-2 carried the breakthroughs, while Katyusha launchers prepared them with rocket fire. Many of the lorries came from American deliveries, above all the Studebaker US6, which carried troops and towed guns. By April 1945 this army stood before Berlin.

On the tabletop

The 42 plastic riflemen and the six men from the IS-2 box make up several rifle squads, led by the platoon commander and a four-man HQ with two officers, a medic and a radio operator. Both MMG teams and the mortar give covering fire from the second line. The T-34/85 and IS-2 lead the breakthrough together, the ZiS-3 engages enemy vehicles and positions, and two Katyushas drop rocket salvoes on the enemy line. The Studebaker moves a squad forward or tows the gun to its next position.
