    Product details

    Background & context

Not every knight fought in the saddle. At sieges, in woodland or on marshy ground the armoured men dismounted and pushed forward on foot; in the 12th and 13th centuries that was a deliberate choice and not a makeshift. The English armies later made a system of it by having their knights dismount and fight among the archers. Mail hauberk, great helm and long surcoat remain the hallmark of the period throughout.

    On the tabletop

These 40 dismounted knights fight where horses can go no further: at sieges, at bridges, in woodland or on marshy ground. The box lets you build up to 20 figures with longswords and 20 with two-handed swords, giving you two differently armed units. In battles of the 11th to 13th centuries in 28 mm scale they are the heavily armoured spearhead of your foot troops, leading an assault on walls or narrow passages.
