    Background & context

    Der Ritter des 13. Jahrhunderts war zwar Reiter, doch bei Belagerungen, Straßenkämpfen und beim Verteidigen einer Stellung stieg er ab. In Lincoln 1217 wurde in den Gassen zwischen Burg und Kathedrale zu Fuß gekämpft, und bei Bouvines drängten sich abgesessene Ritter um ihre Könige. Die Ausrüstung blieb dieselbe: Kettenhemd bis zu den Knien, Kettenhaube, Topfhelm oder offener Helm, darüber der Waffenrock mit dem Wappen, das den Träger auf dem Feld kenntlich machte - und für Lösegeld statt Tod sorgte, wenn er fiel.

    On the tabletop

    This box builds up to 24 knights in mail and surcoat, armed with sword, axe, falchion, mace or spear. In The Barons' War they dismount when a position must be held, a castle stormed or a fight carried through narrow streets, as at Lincoln in 1217. As heavy foot they stand at the centre of your line and carry the melee. Heads and shields to mix let you give every knight his own heraldry.
