Background & context

Im Hochmittelalter führte der Herr sein Gefolge selbst ins Gefecht, und wer die Fahne trug, stand im Zentrum des Kampfes. Bei Lincoln 1217 ritt der über siebzigjährige William Marshal an der Spitze, während Bischof Peter des Roches die Armbrustschützen dirigierte - Kirchenmänner mit Kettenhemd unter dem Ornat waren keine Seltenheit. Der Falke auf der Faust zeigt, dass Krieg und Jagd derselben Schicht gehörten. Mit Krone, Mitra und Wappenbanner erzählt so eine Gruppe mehr über die Fraktion als jeder Eintrag in der Armeeliste.

On the tabletop

The four foot figures form the command of your retinue in The Barons' War: leader, musician, banner bearer and warrior priest. With 24 heads, including crowned helms and a bishop's mitre, you can also portray a king or bishop. The command stands at the centre of the battle line, issues orders and steadies wavering ranks, while the banner shows your men where to rally. For actions such as Lincoln in 1217, foot knights and serjeants from the same range fit well.
