Product details

Background & context

The Wirbelwind was developed in 1944 based on the Panzer IV chassis. It featured an open-top turret with four 2cm anti-aircraft guns and was intended to protect tank formations from ground-attack aircraft. Its high rate of fire also made it dangerous against infantry and lightly armored targets. Production numbers remained low, making it a distinctive but rare late-war vehicle.

On the tabletop

In Bolt Action the Wirbelwind is a medium tank with four light autocannons in an open turret, for German armoured platoons from the second half of 1944. It was meant for low-flying aircraft, but at 800 rounds a minute it is just as effective against infantry and soft-skinned or lightly armoured vehicles. Keep it behind your front line, as the open-topped turret gives the crew little protection. Order dice and a stat card are included.
