Product details

Background & context

Tracked air defence only became urgent for the Wehrmacht once the Allies controlled the skies. The Wirbelwind with its four 2 cm barrels was not enough for this: too short a range, too little effect per hit. The Ostwind replaced the quadruple mount with a single 3.7 cm gun in a hexagonal, open-topped turret. It was built only in the last months of the war and in such small numbers that it appears more often on the gaming table than it ever did at the front.

On the tabletop

The Ostwind mounts a single 3.7 cm autocannon in a hexagonal, open-topped turret on the Panzer IV chassis, and only 44 were built in the last months of the war. It was intended as more effective anti-aircraft protection than the Wirbelwind. In Bolt Action your heavy autocannon engages infantry, light vehicles and aircraft alike, suiting late German armoured platoons. Because of the open turret, keep it behind your front line. Decals, an order die, a stat card and damage markers are included.
