Background & context

Das LG 40 entstand 1940 für die Luftlandetruppe: rückstoßfreies Prinzip, Leichtmetall-Lafette, zerlegbar in Lasten, die sich unter Fallschirmen abwerfen ließen. Bei Kreta kam die Konstruktion erstmals im großen Stil zum Einsatz. Die 10,5-cm-Version wog nur einen Bruchteil einer vergleichbaren Feldhaubitze, verriet ihre Stellung aber durch die Staub- und Rauchwolke hinter dem Verschluss. Ab 1943 standen die Rohre meist am Boden, weil große Luftlandeunternehmen ausblieben.

On the tabletop

The 10.5 cm LG 40/1 is a recoilless gun, which is why it weighs only a fraction of a normal howitzer of the same calibre. It gives your Fallschirmjäger of 1943 to 1945 a large-calibre gun against buildings, field positions and bunkers. The blast behind the breech gives its position away, so keep it in cover and move it when needed. Three figures make up the crew.
