Background & context

In the campaigns up to 1942 the formations of the Waffen-SS were small in number and worse off for equipment than the Heer, which is why captured Czech machine guns were widespread among them. Their camouflage clothing stood out early: mottled smocks and helmet covers, long before the Heer issued anything comparable. Inseparable from this are the crimes in which these formations were involved from the very beginning. The set depicts a unit of this period of the war, nothing more.

On the tabletop

The ten metal figures form a complete Waffen-SS squad for Bolt Action in the years 1939 to 1942, from the Polish campaign to Operation Barbarossa. Its firepower comes from the Czech-made light machine gun crewed by a two-man team, while seven riflemen cover it and advance with it. You put the NCO with his submachine gun at the head. Camouflage smocks and helmet covers already set the figures apart from the army in these early years.
