    Background & context

    Japans Rüstung war auf die Flotte ausgerichtet, Stahl und Ersatzteile für das Heer blieben knapp. Als der Type 97 Chi-Ha gegen amerikanische Panzer chancenlos wurde, verschwanden ausgefallene Fahrzeuge kurzerhand bis zur Turmoberkante im Boden. Aus dem mittleren Panzer wurde ein kaum sichtbarer Bunker, den Angreifer erst auf kurze Distanz zu Gesicht bekamen. Auf Iwojima, Okinawa und den Philippinen gehörten solche Stellungen zum festen Bestandteil der japanischen Verteidigung.

    On the tabletop

    A dug-in Chi-Ha was Japan's answer to a lack of spare parts: the tank disappeared into the ground up to its turret and became a barely visible strongpoint. In Bolt Action it cannot move but is low and hard to hit, armed with a light howitzer and a rear-firing machine gun, or optionally the Shinhoto's anti-tank gun. Use it to block an approach or set an ambush. On Iwo Jima, Okinawa and the Philippines such positions were part of the Japanese defence.
