Background & context

At first Desert Rats was the name of the 7th Armoured Division alone, then the nickname spread to the whole 8th Army. Between 1940 and 1943 the front shifted right across Libya several times: the retreat to Tobruk, the disaster at Gazala, the turning point at El Alamein and finally the advance to Tunis. The fighting was done in khaki drill and shorts, in the heat of the day and the frost of the night, with sand in every breech, on a front that had little in common with the European picture of war.

On the tabletop

The 38 figures make a British or Commonwealth infantry platoon for the desert war of 1940 to 1943. Each figure is assembled from torso, arms and head, so you can organise sections and platoon command as you see fit. 32 men stand individually on 20 mm round bases, and the four square 40 mm bases take the support teams. Actions range from Tobruk via Gazala and El Alamein to Tunis, with the German Afrikakorps as a natural opponent.
