    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    US paratroopers from the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions landed behind German lines in Normandy on the night of June 6, 1944 - one of the boldest airborne operations of World War II. Lightly armed but intensely trained, they fought in small groups for bridges, villages, and crossroads, often for days or weeks without heavy support. The call sign "Currahee" - Cherokee for "Stands Alone" - was the motto of the 506th PIR and symbolizes the self-sufficiency of these units. *Band of Brothers* brought these operations to life for an entire generation of wargamers.
