The Airborne jumped without tanks, but with guns of their own. This box combines 36 paratroopers with a Pack Howitzer and a 57mm anti-tank gun, so the lightest troops in the game suddenly show real teeth.

Background & context

Currahee is a hill near Camp Toccoa in Georgia that the recruits of the 506th PIR ran up and down countless times during training. The name became a battle cry. During the night leading into 6 June 1944 the paratroopers of the 82nd and 101st came down widely scattered over Normandy, many of them kilometres from their drop zone. Instead of orderly companies, mixed groups formed and took bridges, batteries and road junctions on their own initiative.

On the tabletop

You build the HQ around the resin officer, and the 36 paratroopers in varied poses become three squads. The two MMG teams and the medium mortar team come along as Weapons Teams and keep the enemy in cover while your squads advance. Unusual for an airborne list is the artillery: the 75mm Pack Howitzer shells infantry in their positions and the 57mm anti-tank gun targets vehicles, both with a crew of 3. There is no vehicle, so you play pure infantry that draws its pressure from two guns.
