Background & context

Johann Tserclaes von Tilly lernte sein Handwerk in spanischen Diensten in den Niederlanden und führte ab 1610 das Heer der Katholischen Liga. Seine tief gestaffelten Gewalthaufen schlugen bei Wimpfen, Höchst und Lutter alles, was die protestantische Seite aufbot; 1631 endete die Belagerung Magdeburgs in einer Katastrophe, die seinen Namen bis heute belastet. Gegen die beweglichere schwedische Aufstellung verlor er im selben Jahr bei Breitenfeld. Ein Jahr später traf ihn am Lech eine Kugel, an deren Folgen er starb.

Count Tilly leads your Imperial army in Pike & Shotte as general of the Catholic League. He brought the Spanish school with its deep pike blocks to Germany, and that is how you deploy your pike blocks on the table. Scenarios include his victories at Wimpfen, Höchst and Lutter, the siege of Magdeburg in 1631 and Breitenfeld, where the more flexibly deployed Swedes defeated him. The mounted figure is metal.
