Product details

Background & context

Spanish conquistadors used mounted fighters in the Americas as mobile and psychologically effective troops. Relative to indigenous armies, cavalry were rare but could be decisive at key points. The scope of supply includes a sword, spear, and shield, but no heavy cuirassier equipment.

On the tabletop

Up to twelve mounted conquistadors with sword, spear and shield and eight war dogs accompany your Spanish foot troops. The riders are always few against many, yet in open ground they decide fights, as Cortés did at Otumba when he charged the Aztec leaders with four companions. The war dogs run ahead of the horsemen. With European hats and helmets the same figures also serve as 16th century Spanish cavalry in Europe.
