A city railway station in 3 mm MDF for battles in France during the Second World War. The station building with removable roof, footbridge, signal box and track together fill a whole corner of the table.

Background & context

Before the Normandy landings, Allied air forces spent the spring of 1944 bombing stations, marshalling yards and bridges across France. The aim was to stop German reserves from reaching the coast quickly. At the same time the Resistance sabotaged tracks, points and signal boxes all over the country. By the summer of 1944 many city stations were damaged or in ruins when the fighting reached the towns.

On the tabletop

Build the station into one corner of your table and run the track right through the town. With the roof lifted off, infantry stand on the platform, while the footbridge serves as a raised post above the rails. The signal box with its large windows gives a clear view over the tracks. The layout suits missions in which a rail junction has to be held or blown up.
