Product details

Background & context

The Type 97 entered service in 1938 and was serviceable for its day, as long as the opponents were infantry and Chinese field positions. The short 57mm gun was meant for support, not for cracking tanks, which took a bitter revenge at Khalkhin Gol against Soviet formations. The answer was the Shinhoto Chi-Ha with a new, larger turret and a 47mm tank gun. By the time it faced the Shermans on Saipan and in the Philippines, that too was long since not enough.

On the tabletop

With three Type 97s you field a Japanese tank platoon in Bolt Action. Each vehicle can be built as the original Chi-Ha, whose short gun acts as a light howitzer supporting infantry against positions, or as the Shinhoto Chi-Ha with a larger turret and a 47 mm gun for fighting tanks. In the game both count as light tanks. The early Chi-Ha suits China and Khalkhin Gol, the Shinhoto Saipan and the Philippines, where it met American Shermans. Stat card, decals and blast markers are included.
