Background & context

France drew the conclusion from the First World War that it needed a breakthrough tank: heavy armour, a howitzer in the hull and a small turret with an anti-tank gun. In 1940 the Char B1 bis was therefore one of the best-armoured tanks anywhere and very hard for German crews to defeat. What finished it was not combat but fuel consumption, short range and lack of speed. The Wehrmacht captured 161 of them and converted a number into flamethrower tanks.

On the tabletop

With three Char B1 bis you field a heavy French armoured platoon for the 1940 campaign, or you build them as captured Panzerkampfwagen B-2 740 (f) for the Wehrmacht, also as one of two flamethrower versions. The 47 mm turret gun fights tanks and the 75 mm hull howitzer deals with positions, and in 1940 it was among the most powerful tanks of all. Slow and thirsty, the platoon leads your breakthrough. French and German commander figures, decals and damage markers are included.
