Vickers machine gun, 3-inch mortar and the heavy 4.2-inch mortar for your British in Bolt Action. Twelve crewmen in battledress divide into up to four weapons teams, or three teams plus a platoon commander and an assistant. Plastic in 28 mm.

Background & context

The water-cooled Vickers had been in British service since 1912 and fired for as long as the water and the belts lasted, on one occasion in the First World War for twelve hours without a pause. In the Second World War the army concentrated these guns in dedicated machine gun battalions that were allotted to the divisions. The 3-inch mortar, by contrast, belonged to each infantry battalion itself, six tubes in the mortar platoon, and the 4.2-inch mortar arrived from 1943 as a heavy supplement. Together they gave the British infantryman the firepower that his Lee-Enfield alone did not have.

On the tabletop

Heavy weapons for your British infantry in Bolt Action: the two weapon frames each provide a Vickers MMG, a 3 inch mortar and a 4.2 inch mortar. The water-cooled Vickers keeps up sustained fire and forces the enemy into cover, while the mortars lob their bombs over walls and hedges. The twelve crewmen build up to two MG and two mortar teams, or three teams plus a platoon commander and bodyguard, keeping in mind that a heavy mortar needs four crew.
