Hintergrund & Einordnung

The armed forces of the British Commonwealth united soldiers from Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, and Canada under a single command. In the North African Campaign, these multinational units formed the backbone of Allied warfare against the Axis powers. In addition to regular infantry units, highly specialized units such as the LRDG, SAS, and SBS operated deep behind enemy lines - characterized by improvisation and unconventional tactics. The cultural diversity was also reflected in equipment and uniforms: what was lacking in uniformity was more than compensated for by fighting spirit and experience.
