    Description

    A spigot instead of a barrel, a bomb of nine kilos on top, and all of it bolted to a concrete base. The Blacker Bombard was pure improvised self-defence and looks it - as a metal kit with three men, a striking model.

    Background & context

    Nach Dünkirchen fehlte auf der Insel jede Panzerabwehr, und Stewart Blacker bot eine Waffe an, die jede Schlosserei bauen konnte. Sein Spigot-Mörser warf eine große Hohlladung auf wenige hundert Meter, traf dabei aber bestenfalls ungefähr. Zehntausende Stück gingen 1941 an Home Guard und Heimatverteidigung, meist fest verschraubt auf einem Betonpilz an Kreuzungen und Brücken. Viele dieser Sockel stehen bis heute in englischen Hecken.

    On the tabletop

    The Blacker Bombard is a spigot mortar that uses a steel rod instead of a barrel to launch a large bomb against tanks. Bolted to a concrete pedestal or a cross-shaped platform, it could not be moved. So you place it with its three crew figures at a roadblock, bridge or crossroads the enemy has to pass. In British home defence games it gives the Home Guard an anti-tank weapon of its own.
