Hintergrund & Einordnung

The British Army was one of the most battle-hardened forces of World War II - tempered by years of fighting in North Africa, the Far East, and the Mediterranean. Upon their return to Western Europe from 1943 onwards, British units brought this experience to new theaters. The water-cooled Vickers machine gun had been in service since World War I and was considered an extremely reliable source of fire. The 3-inch mortar supplemented the infantry's firepower at medium ranges and allowed for indirect fire support without a direct line of sight.

Einsatz im Spiel

Support groups of this type form the tactical backbone of any British roster. The Vickers MMG team takes on the role of the fire base, pinning enemy units and making movement costly. The mortar supplements this with indirect fire against covered targets. Officers and Forward Observer create tactical flexibility, enabling coordinated attacks, while the Medic increases the survivability of surrounding units. The set is suitable for historical scenarios from North Africa and Italy to the battles in Normandy and Northwest Europe.
