    Background & context

    The BL 5.5 inch was the workhorse of British medium artillery and served from North Africa through Italy to North-West Europe. Its job was less the single hit than the methodical blanketing of positions and enemy guns far behind the front. British and Commonwealth units valued its range so highly that the guns stayed in service long after 1945, in Korea as well as in the Indo-Pakistani wars.

    On the tabletop

    For British armies in Italy and north-west Europe, the 5.5 inch howitzer delivers effective indirect fire from deep behind the line. Its main task was counter-battery fire, and on the table it also shells positions your infantry cannot reach. Four figures form the crew. Gun and crew share an oval MDF base, and you keep infantry in front of it to guard against enemy thrusts.
