Background & context

Die britischen Luftlandedivisionen entstanden 1941 praktisch aus dem Nichts und hatten bis Kriegsende Tunesien, Sizilien, die Normandie, Arnheim und den Rheinübergang hinter sich. Ihre roten Baskenmützen brachten ihnen auf der Gegenseite den Namen Red Devils ein. Weil abgesetzte Verbände ohne schwere Waffen und oft ohne Funkverbindung auskommen mussten, lag ungewöhnlich viel auf den Schultern der Offiziere vor Ort - und auf denen der Sanitäter, die ohne Nachschub improvisierten.

On the tabletop

A medic, an observer and two officers complete the headquarters of your British airborne troops in Bolt Action. The officer leads the platoon, while the medic and observer fill the support slots in your list. Dropped formations without heavy weapons and often without radio contact depended heavily on their officers on the spot. The group therefore suits games from Normandy through Arnhem to the Rhine crossing.
