Product details

Background & context

British paratroopers rarely jumped in Italy. The 2nd Independent Parachute Brigade stayed in the country at the end of 1943 when the rest of 1st Airborne Division returned to England, and fought on as ordinary infantry. In spring 1944 it held positions in the Cassino sector, among rubble, mud and German observers on Monastery Hill. Night patrols and days under mortar fire shaped this tour far more than the parachute ever did.

On the tabletop

These four paratroopers show British airborne soldiers who held the line as ordinary infantry at Cassino in 1944. One observes through binoculars, the others cover with weapons raised or kneeling, all wearing camouflage netting on their helmets. They give you the core of a British squad for fighting among the ruins and shell holes of Italy. A spare head is included, and the multi-part figures are printed in resin.
