Product details

Background & context

In well-built positions the firing posts for heavy weapons were not at the end but spread along the trench so that they covered each other. A MG 34 or a mortar stood where it could sweep the ground ahead, while the rest of the trench protected the men moving between positions. The pattern appears in German field positions as well as in British and Soviet ones.

On the tabletop

This piece sits in the middle of a trench line and adds a firing position at that point. An 88mm gun, an anti-tank gun, a machine gun team or a mortar can be set up there, and the crew stands in hard cover with improved saves. Because it blocks line of sight, it works as a cornerstone of a defence or as an objective between two trenches.
