Product details

Background & context

In Normandy in 1944 church towers served as artillery observation posts and were therefore favoured targets. The church of Sainte-Mère-Église became famous: on the night before 6 June 1944 an American paratrooper stayed hanging from its tower by his parachute. The village churches of the region were mostly the tallest buildings and were damaged accordingly in the fighting.

On the tabletop

The church is a large building that shapes a village or the edge of a town. As an objective, an observation post or a stronghold of the defenders it steers the fight. It suits D-Day scenarios and other engagements in north-western France and combines with destroyed houses to make a place that bears the marks of the fighting.
