Background & context

Als der Krieg 1939 begann, gab es die gepanzerte Halbkette in Stückzahlen, die kaum für ein Bataillon je Panzerdivision reichten. Die Ausf. C mit ihrer geschweißten Bugpanzerung und den Staukästen an den Kotflügeln blieb bis 1943 die verbreitetste Bauform. Ihre Besatzungen fuhren in Frankreich 1940 und im Sommer 1941 in Russland dicht hinter den Panzerspitzen her und stiegen erst am Feindkontakt ab. Eine Taktik, die damals völlig neu war.

On the tabletop

Poland in 1939, France in 1940 and Russia in the summer of 1941 are the settings for this platoon. The box contains 30 early war German infantrymen and three Sd.Kfz 251/1 Ausf. C half-tracks, so you can field three squads with their transport in Bolt Action. The half-tracks follow close behind the tanks, and the squads dismount only just short of the enemy and attack from there. That way you recreate what was then a new tactic of mobile infantry.
