In 1940 German fire support still looked different: a 5cm mortar instead of the 8cm, an anti-tank rifle team instead of a Panzerschreck. Three teams of two men each in early-war uniform, cast in Warlord Resin Plus, plus three Order Dice.

Background & context

In 1939 an anti-tank rifle was still enough. The Panzerbüchse 39 fired a 7.92mm hard-cored round that went through the side armour of Polish 7TPs, French H35s and British Mk VIs. Two years later the same round bounced off the frontal armour of a T-34, and within months the anti-tank rifles had disappeared from the companies. The 5cm leichte Granatwerfer 36 lasted a little longer, but it too was too weak for the effect it delivered and gave way to the 8cm mortar.

On the tabletop

Three two-man teams in early-war uniform give a German force of 1939 to 1941 its support weapons in Bolt Action. The light 5 cm mortar fires in an arc at enemies behind walls and in trenches. The anti-tank rifle team is the answer to the lightly armoured vehicles that Poland, France and Britain fielded at the time. The sniper picks his targets from long range, and three order dice are included.
