Hintergrund & Einordnung

During the 1939-1941 Blitzkrieg, the Wehrmacht relied on speed and tactical flexibility. Small arms groups such as snipers, light mortar teams, and anti-tank teams were an integral part of every infantry platoon, enabling them to react quickly to changing threats. The Panzerbüchse 39 (PzB 39) anti-tank rifle was still sufficiently effective in this early phase against enemy light tanks like the Polish 7TP, French H35, or British Mk VI - until it was increasingly replaced by the Panzerschreck and Panzerfaust from 1942 onwards. The 5cm light mortar 36 (leGrW 36), as a portable indirect fire system, provided direct fire support for rifle platoons at short and medium ranges. These teams reflect the typical structure of a German rifle company in the early war period.

Einsatz im Spiel

The set provides three tactically distinct options for a Blitzkrieg army: The light mortar is excellent against entrenched infantry and can fire indirectly over terrain. The sniper team puts pressure on enemy command units and key models. The anti-tank rifle team is a cost-effective answer to light vehicles and poses an additional problem for the opponent. All three teams can be easily integrated into existing infantry platoons.
