    The Blitzkrieg German Support Group provides the classic support elements of an early German infantry unit: an HQ pack with officers and specialists, an MMG team on a tripod for sustained fire, and an 8cm Granatwerfer 34 for indirect fire at medium range - typical Wehrmacht equipment from the early war period 1939-1941.

    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    In the early war from 1939-1941, the Wehrmacht relied on decentralized leadership and coordinated fire support. German officers were specifically trained to assume the role of their immediate superiors, which allowed them a high degree of initiative - one of the hallmarks of German leadership doctrine. The MG34 on a tripod provided sustained suppressive fire through belt ammunition, while the 8cm Granatwerfer 34, with a range of up to 2,400 meters, offered flexible indirect fire support. Such support groups were a central element of the Blitzkrieg in Poland, France, Scandinavia, and the Balkans, enabling the devastating effectiveness of the rapid, coordinated attacks of the early war years.

    Einsatz im Spiel

    The Support Group supplements a Blitzkrieg Infantry Platoon with three tactically valuable elements. The Officer increases leadership quality and provides activation benefits to adjacent units. The MMG team on a tripod generates massive suppressive fire on infantry in cover and forces morale checks. The medium mortar allows for indirect fire on covered targets and is a must-have for anyone who wants to play Early War scenarios.
