Background & context

Blitzkrieg was not a German technical term but a press catchword. What actually worked was called Auftragstaktik: the superior set the objective, and the platoon commander found his own way there. Added to that came a radio in almost every vehicle and an MG34 whose belt feed delivered densities of fire that hardly anyone reckoned with in 1940. The 8cm Granatwerfer 34 threw its bombs out to around 2,400 metres and was the artillery a company could take along itself.

On the tabletop

For the early campaigns of 1939 to 1941 this metal set provides the support of a German company in Bolt Action. The HQ leads the platoon, and because German officers were trained to take on their superiors' roles, they could act on their own initiative. The machine gun team fires from a tripod, which gives the weapon a steady mount for sustained fire. The 8 cm Granatwerfer 34 with three crew reaches out to 2,400 metres and delivers fire on call.
