Background & context

Gedacht war die 8,8-cm-Flak als Fliegerabwehrgeschütz, doch ihre hohe Mündungsgeschwindigkeit machte sie zur wirksamsten Panzerabwehrwaffe ihrer Zeit. Bei Arras 1940 stoppten waagerecht gerichtete Acht-Achter britische Matilda-Panzer, gegen die im deutschen Arsenal sonst nichts ankam. In Nordafrika wiederholte sich das Muster im großen Stil. Alliierte Besatzungen lernten schnell, das lange Rohr zu fürchten.

On the tabletop

With the two limbers you can build this 88 mm Flak 36 either ready to move or deployed for firing. In Bolt Action it is a super-heavy anti-tank gun on a rotating platform that can fire as a medium howitzer instead. In games set between 1939 and 1942, such as around Arras in 1940, it stops tanks like the Matilda. Six metal crew in early-war dress serve it, and an Sd.Kfz 7 can tow it.
