    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The German campaigns against Poland, the Benelux states, and France in 1939-1940 shocked the world and coined the term "Blitzkrieg". Behind the myth was a core of excellently trained and equipped infantry, supported by tanks and artillery operating in concert - a doctrine far ahead of other armies at the time. Characteristic of early war Heer soldiers were knee-high leather boots (Marschstiefel), which were later replaced by shorter boots with gaiters. At this time, the Panzer IV was still in its B/C/D variants, equipped with the short 7.5 cm KwK 37 L/24 - in this version, it was purely an infantry support tank. This Starter Army depicts a typical Heer battle group from 1939 to 1941 - with the equipment and doctrine that made Germany so dangerous in the early phase of the war.

    The starter army offers a complete, balanced entry into Bolt Action Early War scenarios. The infantry squads form the backbone, while the MG team and mortar provide flexible support. The Sd.Kfz. 251 quickly brings infantry into position, and the Panzer IV B/C/D provides tank support - together, a classic Blitzkrieg battlegroup for the tabletop.
