In May 1940 Belgium held out for eighteen days, long enough for the BEF to reach Dunkirk. This ten-man squad with MP28, FM30 LMG and riflemen is the faction your opponent is guaranteed never to have seen on the gaming table.

Background & context

In the spring of 1940, the Belgian army formed one of the first lines of defense against the German advance in the West. Its infantry was shaped by experiences and doctrines from the First World War, which manifested in an emphasis on static defensive positions. Equipped with a mix of weapons ranging from the outdated Fusil 1889 to the modern FM30 Browning LMG, these units offered tenacious resistance despite structural disadvantages. The rapid collapse of the front line was less due to a lack of fighting spirit than to the tactical superiority of the German "Blitzkrieg."

On the tabletop

Belgium's infantry faced the German attack in 1940 still following the static defence doctrine of the First World War. The squad is led by a sergeant with an MP28, and one man carries and operates the FM 30 light machine gun, known as the Belgian BAR, on his own. The other eight fire the Fusil 1889 rifle. In Bolt Action you dig in with it and make the enemy pay for every attack.
