Background & context

The Belgian armed forces were among the first Western Allied units that had to withstand the German advance in spring 1940. Despite being outnumbered, they offered fierce resistance, relying on a solid mix of trained officers and proven support weapons. Heavy machine guns and mortars formed the backbone of the Belgian defensive lines, enabling them to delay enemy advances. The Belgian army fought with considerable defiance until its forced surrender in May 1940, leaving a lasting impression on the military history of the Western Campaign.

On the tabletop

Led by well-trained officers and relying on proven weapons, the Belgian army tried to hold the line in 1940. This set adds two officers, a medic and a forward observer to your Bolt Action force. The Maxim machine gun keeps paths and cover under sustained fire, while the 81 mm mortar drops rounds in an arc onto enemies behind walls and in trenches. This gives the Belgian rifle squads leadership and support.
