Hintergrund & Einordnung

In spring 1940, the British Expeditionary Force, with almost 350,000 men, was the main British contingent on the European mainland. Together with Belgian and French units, it was supposed to halt the German advance-instead, the operation ended with the dramatic evacuation at Dunkirk. The Vickers machine gun and the 3-inch mortar were the backbones of British infantry support at that time: reliable, proven, and present in every British infantry battalion. Forward observers coordinated artillery deployment, and medics maintained the combat effectiveness of the units.

Einsatz im Spiel

This support group adds tactical depth and specialized combat options to any BEF army. The MMG team is ideal for flank protection and fire support, while the mortar team puts pressure on soft targets at range. Officers bolster the morale of their own units in critical phases of battle, and the forward observer enables indirect fire across the entire battlefield. The composition is thematically ideal for early war scenarios in France and Belgium 1940.
